Enjoying the Rogue

In hopefully one of the first of many challenges and topics to arise from Blog Azeroth, Siha proposed the question “What do you enjoy about the class you play the most?”
The simple answer is that it’s fun. I’ve played all the other classes for some length of time, but Rogue is the only class that remains fun for me, day in and day out.
Then the real question is “Why do I find Rogue so much more fun than any other class?” It’s really hard to pin down. It all boils down to how playing a Rogue feels.
- A good Rogue picks the fight. With Stealth, we can either avoid mobs or sneak up and start the fight on our terms. And there’s just not just one way to do it either. Even for a standard Combat Sword Rogue, we can start a fight with a Cheap Shot or Garotte. All throughout fights we have lots of things to think about and consider between our combo points and energy. As time goes on, it becomes second nature. Playing a character with mana or rage just isn’t the same.
- A good Rogue controls the fight. If the fight is going well, we can save up our combo points for a big finisher. The fight is going bad, we can ditch and run via Vanish, Sprint or Kidney Shot hoping to shift the tide. We don’t have Divine Shield or anything and I wouldn’t trade all of my abilities for it either.
- Rogues are visceral. It feels like I’m kicking ass as I unload on some target. Watching their health disappear under my onslaught makes me feel giddy. Even in a group, when a mob dies, I feel directly responsible. I don’t feel that with a ranged character. It’s too disconnected.
There’s so much more, but when it comes down to it, I think those are the key points condensed to their most basic essences.
And thanks to Phaelia for choosing and creating my bullet icon for me.

simply, it’s the closest thing to being a ninja. and i second all of your points.
